Stars & Stripes Spotlight: Touhyville Media

WLQI/Touhyville Media’s America 250 campaign brings together on-air content, community partnerships, charitable efforts, and local event sponsorships to engage audiences across Northwest Indiana during the nation’s 250th Anniversary.

The station’s efforts began with on-air promotions and giveaways designed to educate and engage listeners while recognizing the significance of America’s semiquincentennial. One of the campaign’s most successful elements has been the creation of custom America 250 commemorative t-shirts featuring morning show hosts Steve and Cheryl Touhy dressed in colonial-era attire. The shirts have generated significant listener interest and enthusiasm throughout the station’s coverage area.

WLQI/Touhyville Media has also extended the campaign beyond its broadcasts by decorating its studios with America 250 banners and patriotic displays. These visual elements create a festive atmosphere for visitors and are prominently featured during the station’s daily video simulcasts of the Touhyville Show.

Community involvement has been a cornerstone of the station’s America 250 efforts. WLQI/Touhyville Media serves as the primary sponsor of Jasper County 250, a full-day community celebration scheduled for July 4, 2026, commemorating America’s 250th Birthday. The station has provided extensive on-air, digital, and social media promotion to build awareness and encourage participation in this historic event.

The impact of the station’s involvement is reflected in the words of Jasper County 250 Committee Chairperson Tammy Culp, owner of Culp Family Farms:

“Celebrating America’s 250th birthday is going to be a day to remember in Jasper County. WLQI, WIBN, and BEAR COUNTRY have been great to work with in promoting this once-in-a-lifetime event. From the initial dream to the final reality, the local radio stations have been by my side helping reach our communities with information about all of the upcoming activities. Steve and Cheryl love the community they live in and serve, and their dedication does not go unnoticed.”

In addition to its sponsorship efforts, WLQI/Touhyville Media will broadcast live from the Jasper County Fair for five days during fair week. With the fair’s theme centered on America 250, the station’s coverage will help connect fairgoers and listeners with the many events and activities celebrating this historic national milestone.

The station has also incorporated a strong public service component into its America 250 campaign. Commemorative t-shirts are being distributed in exchange for donations to local food pantries, supporting families in need while encouraging community participation. Throughout the summer, WLQI/Touhyville Media is also giving away tickets to amusement parks and attractions across Indiana, creating memorable experiences for local families as part of the celebration.

If your station is planning a program, initiative, or story—whether happening now or later this year—we would love to hear about it. Featured stations will be showcased in Bandwidth and across our social media platforms. To participate, please email your patriotic content to katy@indianabroadcasters.org so we can help share your story.
