Remembering Two Broadcasting Icons Jill Ditmire and David Bailey

Broadcasters and Hoosiers across the state are mourning the loss of two legendary voices.

Journalist Jill Ditmire, 56, passed away after a long career in both TV and Radio.  Most recently, Ditmire was a reporter for WFYI Public Radio in Indianapolis where she covered the arts community and was a host for “All Things Considered.” She also worked at WISH-TV, WLFI-TV, and was a local business owner.

“Jill was an icon of broadcasting in Indiana,” said IBA Director of Member Services Sam Klemet who worked with Ditmire for three years at WFYI.  “Her energy and passion for storytelling was infectious.  She was a dedicated reporter, but more importantly, a wonderful person and mentor.  She will be greatly missed.”

The IBA also is remembering the life and career of former Association president David Bailey, 76.  David began his television career at WTHI-TV in Terre Haute as a studio assistant in 1966 while completing his degree in business management at Indiana State University.  He was named Vice President/General Manager of the station in 1987 and took on the additional responsibilities of radio stations WTHI-FM and WWVR-FM in 1997.

David continued to oversee the three operations initially for Wabash Valley Broadcasting and later for Emmis Communications until his retirement in March 2005.
