The Indiana Broadcasters Association invites students and job seekers to hear from some of the best, young broadcasters in the state on Saturday, March 28th as a part of the 2020 Virtual Career Day.
This year’s panel begins at 1 p.m. before the career fair and will focus on the topic of how to keep a “work life balance” in a career in TV and radio.

Kayla Sullivan (Host)
Kayla Sullivan is a television news reporter at FOX59 and CBS4 in Indianapolis. While the Statehouse is in session, you can find her chasing down lawmakers with her camera and tripod in hand. She shoots, writes and edits her own stories. Kayla started working at FOX59 and CBS4 in June and took on the role of state political reporter for all the Nexstar stations a few months later. She is a proud member of the Indiana Broadcasters Association Young Professionals.
Kayla was born and raised on the south side of Indianapolis and graduated from the University of Indianapolis in 2015. From there, she worked at WLFI-TV in West Lafayette as an anchor and reporter for four years. However, reporting in Indianapolis has been her dream since elementary school. Now, it’s all about balancing that dream while also being a loving mom to her one year old son, Allan.
Tim Sturgess
In September of 2008 Sturgess accepted the Vice President/General Manager position for the Nexstar operation in Terre Haute, Indiana. In 2011 and 2012 WTWO was honored as the “Station of the Year” by the Indiana Broadcaster’s Association. Over the years the News team has won several Telly Awards, a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award and the Society of Professional Journalists National Sigma Delta Chi Award for Public Service in TV Journalism along with the First Amendment Award from the Indiana Society of Professional Journalists. Sturgess has served as a member of the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors along with the United Way, serving as a Board Member, Cabinet Member and Campaign Chair. He currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Indiana Broadcaster’s Association and is an active member of Maryland Community Church.
Brien McElhatten
Brien McElhatten anchors ABC21 weeknights at 5, 6 and 11 in Fort Wayne. He joined the team in October 2015, which marked a return to the city. He began his career at ABC21 as a reporter in 2008. McElhatten previously worked as a co-host and correspondent for the nationally syndicated news magazine “The List” where he covered consumer and financial news. McElhatten received four Emmy awards during his time on “The List.” McElhatten is a graduate of Ball State University and also attended Ohio University. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Indiana Broadcaster’s Association and is a member of the IBA’s Young Professional’s Group.
Andrea Geiger
Andrea Geiger, General Sales Manager for Radio One Indianapolis. She has worked in many capacities in the radio industry starting in promotions, transitioning into sales and then sales management, where creative NTR programs and thinking big inspire her to learn how to teach talent in the industry. She has a passion and focus for revenue momentum, talent growth and new business development. She is a sister of Phi Mu and is a graduate of Ball State University. Ms. Geiger’s main goals every day are to learn something new and be better than yesterday.
