Indianapolis native Jane Pauley was hired as a general assignment reporter by WISH-TV in 1972 with no previous experience. She soon began anchoring weekend and noon news and was spotted by NBC-owned WMAQ-TV, Chicago. Then, in 1976 she amazingly found herself as co-anchor with Tom Brokaw on NBC’s “Today” show, a job she held for 13 years, to be followed by a 12-year tenure as co-host of “Dateline NBC.” She later had a syndicated talk show for one year, and in 2014 began appearing on some CBS News programs.
