News Internship (Unpaid)

Job Description

Eyewitness News, (WEHT/WTVW) serving the Evansville, Indiana, DMA, is accepting applications for a summer News internship. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to gain real life experience in a working newsroom. The Internship can be tailored to fit the needs, interests and availability of the student.

Responsibilities:
• Shadow reporters, photographers, producers and other newsroom personnel
• Make calls to potential newsmakers to set up appointments and gather facts
• Answer phones and relay appropriate information
• Gather information from news scenes and news makers
• Log information received from news scenes and news makers
• Writes stories and reports based on information you or others have gathered
• Retrieve archive video and stories
• Pitch story ideas
• Set up interviews
• Work on writing, photography, editing, and other skills essential in a newsroom

Required Skills

• Basic understanding of newsroom operations, technology, and language
• Basic understanding of video photography and editing
• Basic understanding of current events
• Must be able to receive college credit for the internship
• This is an unpaid internship

Education Required

• Must be currently enrolled in a college program pursuing a degree in journalism, communications, or a related field
