Register for the News Media Workshop: June 19th Event at University of Indianapolis

The Indiana Broadcasters Association is joining the Hoosier State Press Association and Associated Press Media Editors for a day focused on sharpening the skills of Indiana journalists.  The 2019 News Media Workshop is Wednesday, June 19th at University of Indianapolis.  Register is required by Friday, June 14th.

Sessions will include:

  • Public Access: Learn about your rights and tools you can use for acquiring information.
  • Body Cam Law: Make sure you’re up to date on Indiana’s Body Cam Law.
  • Photo Session: Get tips and advice from the pros.
  • Crafting a video story: Gain skills for dynamic storytelling.
  • Lunch and Keynote with Katie Rogers – White House Correspondent for The New Your Times
  • Investigative Watchdog Journalism: Learn how an investigative journalism project can impact your community.

Who: Up and coming reporters and media professionals who want to sharpen their skills.

What: A one-day event focused on covering news, sponsored by IBA, APME & HSPA.

When: 9 a.m.-3 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, June 19, 2019.

Where: The University of Indianapolis Health Pavilion, 1643 E. Hanna Ave.

Keynote Speaker: Katie Rogers

Keynote speaker Katie Rogers is a White House correspondent for The New York Times. She’ll be discussing the importance of using social media in reporting.

From the NYT: Katie Rogers started at The Times in 2014 and has since focused on features and breaking news. She has covered Washington in the Trump era, pop culture, sexual harassment in Congress, New York Fashion Week, socialites, sexism at the Olympics and the occasional Santa. She is a native Hoosier from Elkhart and got her start as an education reporter for The Elkhart Truth.

Rogers came to The Times from The Guardian, where she oversaw social media production for projects, including the paper’s Pulitzer Prize-winning coverage of the Snowden leaks, and reported on breaking news. Before that, she juggled similar duties at The Washington Post.
