Assignment Manager – WFIE
Job Description
WFIE is seeking a highly motivated assignment editor to join our news team. This individual is a critical member of our newsroom and will coordinate the planning and execution of daily news coverage. Successful candidates must be well-organized and capable of making sound, split-second decisions. Applicants must also be able to generate original stories, maintain contact lists and story files, as well as develop new contacts with government agencies and public relations representatives.
Duties/Responsibilities include, (but are not limited to):
– Work closely with news managers and producers on coordination of daily story coverage and development
– Newsgathering (including developing original story ideas, confirming information, managing breaking news coverage)
– Coordinate story assignments and communicate information to reporters, photographers, and producers
– Monitor scanners, social media, and other news-generating resources
– Ability to build relationships with community leaders
Required Skills
– Degree in journalism, communications, or related field preferred
– Newspaper or broadcast experience
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills
– Strong logistical skills with the ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines
– Minimum of three years of experience in the field preferred
Education Required
Bachelors or better in Journalism or related field.
