2019 IBA Career Day Panel Announced

The IBA will host its annual Spring Career Day on Saturday, March 30th at the 502 East Event Centre in Carmel.

Students and job seekers are encouraged to attend and must register before. Register here.

New this year, broadcasters will review resumes and on-air materials. Students are asked to bring a hard copy of their resume and audio and video clips on a thumb drive to receive critiques.

At 1 p.m., the IBA will host a panel discussion on “Breaking Into Broadcasting” hosted by Hall of Fame broadcaster Patty Spitler who will be joined by other broadcasters from across the state who will provide insight on how students and younger broadcasters can get their foot in the door and rise in the industry.

Following the panel, from 2 – 4:30 p.m., more than 100 TV and radio stations from across the state will be on hand during the career fair which includes resume and on-air material reviews from broadcast professionals.

Patty Spitler

Emmy Award-winner Patty Spitler, host, reporter and producer for “Pet Pals TV” and “Great Day TV,” has had a 42-year career in radio and TV broadcasting. Patty came to Indianapolis in 1982 to co-host “Indianapolis Afternoon” with Dick Wolfsie on WISH-TV Indianapolis, and eventually expanded her talent to become a noon news anchor. She retired from WISH in 2004.  In 2009, she was approached by a producer to join “Pet Pals TV,” which now airs not only on WISH-TV, but also on 23 stations nationwide.  The program focuses on the relationship between animals and humans.

Patty is now host, reporter and executive producer of “Great Day TV” which airs weekly on WISH-TV and presents human interest stories and stories of intriguing people from all walks of life.

Taja Graham

Taja Graham is Vice President of Sales for Emmis Indianapolis. Taja received her B.S. from Butler University. She started her radio career as an intern with WZPL in 1991. In 1996, Taja joined Emmis Communications and has worked in various roles leading up to her current position, leading two teams combined of twelve professionals. She received the Emmis Broadcasting Inc. Chairman’s Club Award for Annual Top Sales Performance in 2007 and 2008 having sold for WNOU and WIBC.

Laurie Kahn

Laurie Kahn is Founder and President of Media Staffing Network, Inc. ™ the first staffing company to cater exclusively to media sales and associated departments for full time placement, consulting and career coaching for the Broadcast, Cable, Internet, Digital, New Media, Out of Home and Print industries.

Nicole Griffin

Nicole Griffin joined the RTV6 News team as a news reporter in April 2017. Nicole is originally from Indianapolis. Nicole graduated from Ben Davis High School in 2008. She went on to study at Ball State University, graduating in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Telecommunications and Journalism. She started her career in Lincoln, NE. She was hired as an overnight producer for KOLN/KGIN 10/11 News, the CBS affiliate. She eventually worked her way up to be a news reporter. She is now a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor at RTV6.

Zach Johnson

Zach Johnson career as a student broadcaster at the Pendleton Heights High School radio station, WEEM. One year after graduating from PHHS, he had his first part time job working as a board-op/producer for the Backyard Broadcasting group of radio stations, now known as Woof Boom Radio. After working part time for several years, he was promoted to a full time on-air position, where he has been for eight years now doing middays on 104.9 WERK-FM, afternoon drive on 93.5 MAX, and calling high school sports on 1240-AM WHBU.

Brianna Williams

Brianna Williams is a graduate in Communication Studies from the University of Southern Indiana. She started out in radio in 2012 at a public media station and switched to a commercial station that now houses Hip Hop and R&B.  Now, she is a midday on-air host Monday thru Friday.  Since 2016, she also has worked at 44News in Evansville doing everything from a camera opp, to a producer, to a director and now graphics and more.

Kevin Robinson
