Grab Your Popcorn and Pieces of Hoosier Hoops History

Carmel, Ind. – August 21, 2020 – Fort Wayne-area TV and Radio stations – WPTA TV, WAJI/WLDE/WGBJ Radio and WANE TV – along with the Indiana Broadcasters Association (IBA), which represents more than 270 members across the state, are coming together during raise money for the historic Hoosier Gym in Knightstown.

The broadcasters are hosting a special screening fundraiser of the movie “Hoosiers” on Thursday, August 27 at 8:30PM EDT at the Auburn Garrett Drive-In Theatre just 15 minutes north of Fort Wayne and three minutes west of I-69 at 1014 IN-8 in Garrett.

Attendees will have a chance to take home mementos from the movie and the state’s rich basketball history during prize giveaways including:

  • Autographed Larry Bird basketball, courtesy of the Fort Wayne Mad Ants;
  • Victor Oladipo Indiana Pacers “Hickory Edition” Replica Jersey
  • Full-size “HOOSIERS” movie poster signed by screenwriter Angelo Pizzo and director David Anspaugh
  • Eleven Life Lessons book signed by author and Hoosier Gym Event Coordinator Bob Garner and by Brad Long (who portrayed “Buddy” in Hoosiers.)
  • Tivoli AM/FM Table Radio

All funds raised will go directly to support the Knightstown Hoosier Gym landmark.

“We know all Hoosiers are feeling the impact of Covid-19 and the Hoosier Gym is no exception.  This iconic state landmark has had to cut back on visitors and events that support its daily operations,” said IBA Executive Director Dave Arland.  “So, the IBA and our Ft. Wayne members have joined forces to bring our state together and support the historic venue.  Nothing is more Indiana than a night of popped corn and the awesome basketball and human stories told in our favorite sports movie of all time.”

Tickets are $20 per vehicle and are available now for advance purchase at HelpHoosierGym.com. The number of vehicles admitted to the screening is limited to 200.

Attendees are welcome to bring lawn chairs and sit outside of their vehicle but must comply with social distancing guidelines put in place by the Auburn-Garrett Drive-In Theatre.
