Job Description

The E.W. Scripps Company is hiring for an MC Hub Maintenance Tech. They will serve as a technical expert for the Scripps Master Control Hub Operator team, supporting the Scripps Television Broadcasting entities. Leveraging deep knowledge of computers and IP networks as well as Master Control Hub operations this position troubleshoots, diagnoses and implements solutions to technical and operational difficulties.

The Master Control Hub is responsible for partnering with the Scripps stations to provide centralized, remote control and monitoring of the commercial and programming sources for the stations.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Serves as liaison to IT group for Master Control.

Reports to the Master Control Hub Manager but consults with Scripps Local Station Engineering Directors and other senior leadership including the Senior Director of Scripps Engineering.

Installs, maintains and repairs critical broadcasting components to ensure all systems are functioning at peak efficiency.

Troubleshoots and repairs a variety of issues with broadcast and IT equipment.

Relies on extensive knowledge and professional discretion to perform efficiently and successfully.

Makes recommendations for products and service enhancements.

Significant technical ingenuity and flexibility is expected.

Collaborates with technology suppliers regarding set-up, upgrades, enhancements, troubleshooting and issue resolution.

Programs/customizes Master Control software functionality.

Tracks and assists Master Control users with desktop computer and server issues.

When resolving open issues seeks multiple perspectives, gathers more information when necessary, closes or escalates issues and monitors resolution so that Hub operation is optimized.

Works with the Hub leadership team to address operational issues and facilitate decision making with regard to technical matters.

Provides input and recommendations to assist in disaster recovery and system planning.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Solid knowledge of computer hardware, software, LAN environment, configuration and operation.

Working knowledge of all functions and responsibilities of television Master Control.

Education Required

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Technical Certificate or training desirable.

1-2 years of vocation /technical or an Associate’s Degree strongly preferred.

IT Certificate, specialized training or equivalent experience desired.

Minimum of 3 years of IT experience required.

Experience with vendor support relations is highly desirable.

A minimum of 2 years of Television Master Control experience required. Up to 5 years desired.

Experience in a hubbed master control environment desirable.

Experience with television automation systems and related equipment.
