Looking for a career that is fast-paced and where every day is different? WRTV, the E.W. Scripps Company ABC affiliate in Indianapolis, IN is looking for a positive, proactive, collaborative, and highly engaged individual to join our team as a Real-Time Editor.

Our Real-Time Editors act as the heart of our newsroom, responsible for information gathering and dissemination, breaking news coverage, content creation for all platforms, and managing digital platforms.

Responsible for managing all cross-platform content gathering operations at the station during their assigned shift.

You act as a content distributor for our digital channels, and is responsible for news writing and editing, social media oversight and pushing out web and mobile breaking news alerts.

Monitoring scanners, email, websites, social media and other sources for breaking news and news tips.
Gathering, confirming and disseminating information to newsroom and digital platforms.
Leading breaking news coverage by aggressively gathering facts for cross-platform distribution.
Collaborating with field crews to update news across platforms in real-time.
Write, edit and optimize digital content and social media posts.
Editing and publishing video content for digital platforms.
Creating enterprise content for all platforms.
Managing all digital platforms including web, mobile, social, and OTT.
Executing the Scripps content strategy as set forth by station leadership.
Perform other duties as needed and as directed by news management.
Story scouting, field crew management and monitoring of scanner, digital platforms and news email.

Required Skills

Excellent verbal, written and social media communication skills.
Must possess strong writing skills and working knowledge of AP style.
Ability to collaborate well in a team and make decisions quickly during any type of coverage.
Ability to work independently, and effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment by remaining calm under pressure.
Operates with considerable latitude; independently performs assignments to results expected; determines and develops approach to solutions.
Ability to create enterprise stories that impact community.
Working knowledge of industry technologies and practices.
Computer skills including Microsoft Office, social media programs and newsroom computer systems.

Education Required

BS/BA in Journalism or related discipline.
2+ years of newsroom experience.
Experience in digital media, web content management systems, basic HTML, web-style writing and social networking preferred.
