News Photographer

Job Description

The News Photographer/Editor operates television or video cameras and editing machines to record and edit images or scenes for news reports.

Required Skills

Shoots video for news reports
• Confers with other personnel to discuss assignments, logistics and shot requirements
• Sets up, composes and executes video shots
• Maintains video equipment
• Edits video clips for television broadcasts and eMedia content
• Operates live units, including backpacks and satellite trucks in remote situations
• Performs other duties as assigned
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
• Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment
• Proficiency with video recording equipment
• Ability to gather information, video, and sound at news scenes for use in later stories
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Must work well under pressures of tight deadlines and live TV
• Flexibility to work any shift
• Must be able to carry tripods, cameras and other equipment to and from news scenes
• Must have a valid driver’s license

Education Required

College degree or equivalent experience operating video equipment
Fluency in English
