Broadcast Engineer

Job Description

ABC57 and the CW25 in South Bend, Indiana have an immediate opening for a full-time Broadcast Engineer to join our growing office! Home to Michiana’s newest newscasts, we are looking for an eager problem-solver.

Perform preventive maintenance and emergency repairs of video production systems, broadcast and satellite transmission equipment, and interactive media with emphasis in Electronic News Gathering (ENG).
Technical support of a News operations that includes but not limited to broadcast and DSLR cameras, cellular bonded backpacks, non-linear editing, production control room automation, Avid iNews, video and audio routing, encoded streams, video servers, etc.
Develop, build and maintain content workflow, support systems integration and problem solving, software, hardware, networking and infrastructure.
Minimizing loss of service at times of equipment failure
Other duties, as assigned.

Where permitted by applicable law, must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine by date of hire to be considered for job, if not currently employed by Weigel Broadcasting Co.

Required Skills

Strong computer skills including file transfer and storage, transcoding processes and ability to remote support.
Previous experience with broadcast technology; repairing hardware and software a must.
Good organization, attention to detail and proactivity.
The ideal candidate must be a self-starter, hard worker and have a great attitude.
Must be able to communicate effectively and work independent.
Must be able to use a variety of equipment including but not limited to IT Networking, Server systems, transcoding servers, Scopes, video switcher operation, Digital video cameras, DSLR, NRCS, computer graphics systems, non-linear editing, broadcast automation and video servers, embedded audio. RF (Radio Frequency) transmitter, satellite IRD’s experience a plus.
Ability to guide, coach, and train colleagues.
Must be able to comprehend schematics, mechanical drawings and technical manuals and documents. The use of test equipment and soldering skills required.

Education Required

Knowledge of GVG Ignite, GVG Stratus and Edius a plus.
Must be able to quickly learn new technologies and implement them into existing broadcast infrastructure.
Must have a solid understanding of Windows and Linux.
