Job Description

ABC57 News in South Bend, Indiana is looking for an Assistant News Director to help lead our newsroom as we continue to innovate and grow. The perfect candidate for the Assistant News Director job would be a seasoned news manager who’s not afraid to think outside of the box and be creative while also being a solid problem solver. We seek a dynamic team leader who is comfortable in a fast-paced environment, who brings excellent judgment, high ethical standards and practices, and who has demonstrated success in helping mentor and grow emerging journalists. This is a hands-on news manager position. The perfect candidate will actively work on the day to day product to ensure our success.

Required Skills

Where permitted by applicable law, must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine by date of hire to be considered for job, if not currently employed by Weigel Broadcasting Co.
Minimum of 3 years news management experience in a television newsroom or equivalent
Proficiency with technology involved in day-to-day news gathering
Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Ability to effectively listen to fully understand employee needs and communicate with a team to shape a solution
May be required to work occasional overnights, nights, and weekends/holidays

Education Required

Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
